6th Grade Art
Students in 6th grade art classes are introduced to various medias and materials as well as Art History connections. Students will practice concepts and techniques before creating their final artworks for each unit. The goal for 6th grade is to gain exposure to materials and concepts! 7th Grade Art
7th grade students begin their course with intention setting and a reminder of what has been covered in 6th grade. Students who were unable to take 6th grade courses will still be well taken care of as each project goes through planning phases, practicing of techniques and skills, and will also continue to layer in Art History connections. 7th grade students can expect to challenge their personal style and begin to develop an artistic voice. 8th Grade Art
8th grade students continue on their artistic voice journey with increased challenge of design and artistic concepts. Students begin to focus on the idea of craftsmanship as they move into the category of intermediate mastery for art mediums. The concepts of intricate detailing and realism are introduced to this age group while still leaving room for style and variety. All artwork shown on this page is student created.
High School Drawing
As students enter into high school level art courses, they are challenged with further developing articulate skills and refining techniques. Students will heavily focus on both value rendering and 3D rendering during this semester long course. Along with drawing skills students will connect artworks to the larger world and historical contexts such as illuminated manuscripts and the popular movement, Inktober. High School Painting
Students that endeavor into high school painting will experience concepts such as color theory and color mixing practices, investigating a master artist and genre, the techniques and applications of paint, as well as focusing on value and light source rendering. Students will begin to develop an artistic voice and will create an artist statement about their style and intentions. All artwork featured on this page is student created.
High School Fiber Arts
Students entering into the lesser known genre of fiber arts will be introduced to a variety of materials and processes such as sewing, needle felting, embroidery, weaving, bleach painting and fabric painting, as well as mixed media. Students will learn about traditional roles of textiles in history and how they connect to our experiences today. All artwork featured on this page is student created.
High School Sculpture
High school sculpture students enter into the classroom ready to explore materials and contexts for three-dimensional art. Students will use traditional art materials such as clay, but will also use readily available materials including cardboard, fabric, paper Mache, wire, paint, and other various found objects. Students will learn about various connection styles for constructing an object as well as best practices in finishing the outer layers of their sculpture with paint, glaze, or other materials. This course is a space to explore materials and a sense of playfulness. All artwork featured on this page is student created.
